
New Delhi: Delhites are suffering from a disease which is a price hike and for the prevention Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) calling for a bandh to protest against the recently implemented hike. The party on Thursday appealed to all sections of the society, including traders, industrialists, workers and students to support the strike to protest the Delhi government’s “anti-people policies”. One section of the BJP, headed by general secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) Praveen Khandelwal, will take out a two-hour half-naked protest march from Red Fort to Chandni Chowk.
Opposition leader V K Malhotra targeting Sheila Dixit said that the government is least concerned about the problem of the common people. Bus fares which were starting from Rs3 to Rs10 maximum has gone up to From Rs5 to Rs 15. Malhotra also said that people do not prefer travelling in buses at all. All this has been done to benefit Blueline buses, while the government claims to take off these buses from the roads.
After the price hike in buses, Delhi metro fares also gone for rise as the minimum was for Rs 8 to max of Rs 25 and now its Rs10 to Rs 30.V K Malhotra also said that what is the need to price hike in Delhi metro when it is running in profit.
Due to The Bandh in New Delhi many commuters also faced problems and also more than 100 people were arrested from different areas including including IP Extension, Madhu Vihar, Moti Nagar and Burari Chowk as they were trying to halt traffic on Delhi roads.
The shopkeepers were also facing the problem as they were forced to close their shops and also they were waiting outside their shops with their work force and salesmen to open the shop again.All the markets in the capital bore a deserted look.The shopkeepers who were trying to open their shops at the usual time, were forcibly made to close them. ‘’When I opened my tea-stall, few people came and started throwing my things here and there. Feeling helpless, I had to close it. Now I am just waiting for the bandh to end so that I can earn at least a little for the day,'’ Baburam, whose runs a tea shop in west Delhi, said.
However, some of the traders and members of market associations felt the step taken by the BJP was right. ‘’This is the only way to make our voices reach the Sheila Dikshit Government. She should realise that how much cruel she has been on those who had supported her in the elections,'’ Manoj Sharma, a toy-shop owner in Lajpat Nagar area said.
